" Halfway between composition and arrangement, these works showcase texts and melodies drawn from the popular repertoire of the 15th to 19th centuries. This connection to folklore is a common thread among many Spanish Romantic and post-Romantic composers and contributes to the revival of their school of composition.
It also seems that the guitar and its sound are embedded in the DNA of this music: even when written for piano, it reflects idiomatic ideas specific to the guitar. Chord voicings, parallelisms, arpeggiations and continuous strumming patterns reminiscent of flamenco rasgueados are all elements of the language that contribute to making this music sound inherently 'Spanish,' thanks to their connection with the guitar."
